What to expect in the first session?
Starting therapy can feel a bit nerve-racking, but understanding what to expect may ease initial anxiety. Your first session typically begins with the therapist introducing themselves, sharing their qualifications, and outlining their role, giving you a chance to ask questions and assess fit. They will review consent forms, explaining the nature of treatment, potential risks, benefits, confidentiality limits, and alternative options. An initial assessment follows, where the therapist gathers information about your history, concerns, expectations, and past therapy experiences to understand your needs. The session concludes with a wrap-up to reflect on your experience, address any feedback, and answer questions.
